Cupping

In oriental medicine, there is a method of healing that is cupping. In some diseases that belong to the indications for treatment of cupping, we often see doctors manipulating cups to perform on patients. So what does cupping do? How does cupping work? What should be kept in mind when performing the cupping method? Find out more details through the article below.

1.     What is cupping?

Cupping is an alternative medicine therapy that uses pressure in a cupping device called a cup to cause local congestion to detoxify the body, and prevent and treat certain diseases. Now cupping, like most therapies and alternative medicine, is classified as pseudoscience by the medical and clinical medicine community.

This method of therapy originated in China and is also known as fire therapy. The mechanism of cupping is to use specialized cups to place on the patient's skin. The purpose is to create negative pressure in these cups and cause local blood vessel congestion, helping to relieve pain, reduce inflammation, detoxify or prevent and treat certain diseases.

2.     Benefits of cupping

·         Increase blood circulation

In cupping therapy, the diseased organ sends signals to the skin via autonomic nerves. The skin then responds by becoming tender and painful with swelling. Skin receptors are activated when the bulb is applied to the skin. The whole process will lead to an increase in blood circulation and blood supply to the skin and internal organs through nerve connections.

·         Blood poison

A study by Mahdavi et al (2012) showed a significant increase in serum uric acid levels compared with venous blood samples. An increase in blood flow can promote the release of toxins and waste products; improve local nutritional status and ultimately promote metabolism and support healthy aspects; Eliminate pathogens.

·         Prevents the development of atherosclerosis

Cupping dilates local capillaries and increases blood flow through the skin; This has been proven by many studies. Blood vessels in cupping-treated areas are dilated due to the release of vasodilators such as adenosine, noradrenaline, and histamine, resulting in increased blood circulation.

You need to rest for a while and drink warm water or ginger soup in moderation. You should avoid irritability, fasting cold, greasy food, and not bathing for two hours. If small blisters, small water drops, or petechiae appear locally, it is a normal reaction, you should let the medicine absorb naturally. 5.     Cupping at home

Oriental medicine doctors have advised limiting cupping at home with the method of using fire. This method is very difficult to do by yourself with manual tools at home, so most people choose to go to pharmacies to use the service, although it takes time, effort, and money.

If you do not have time and want to make cupping at home for comfort, you should use a vacuum cup to ensure health and safety. Because by the method of vacuum suction, the cups are sucked into the body at acupoints to stimulate blood circulation, eliminate diseases such as wind, cold, damp, hot and toxic... and from there blood circulation.
